If you are traveling with a pet that will accompany you on the plane, in the cabin, it helps to arrive a bit earlier because you must check in and pay for your pet at that time. Your luggage must also be brought in to the counter to be checked. Note that your pet carrier counts as your piece of hand luggage. Delta employees were extremely considerate of our pet during check in and boarding the plane. As we boarded the plane, the stewardess was aware of the seat we were to occupy and said she would be over to visit with our little dog. The entire process was easy and comfortable. We have traveled with our pet several times on Delta and always found it to be a simple process.

I had a pup shipped from Washington State to Connecticut by Delta Cargo and they did a great job. They made sure that the pup was taken out of its crate for some exercise during layover and that it did not sit out on the tarmack exposed to the elements. When I went to pick the pup up at Bradley Field, the cargo attendants had him loose in their office. They had walked him and given him fresh water, as well as cleaned his crate. This was much more service than I ever expected.
